Pro Israel Politics

from an email i just received...

Saturday evening on his Geraldo At Large program anchored from Haiti and aired on FNS, Geraldo Rivera and his brother Craig reported on an Israeli Defense Forces ( IDF) field hospital operating in Haiti . Within 24 hours of the earthquake the IDF had arrived in Haiti and built their field hospital (16 hours flying and 8 hours building). They have a full operating theater, a pediatric ICU, an Obstetrics facility and about 100 beds, all set up in a tent. The unit is staffed by about 40 IDF doctors. They are saving lives by preventing infection in neglected wounds and by operating when necessary.

The IDF unit is complemented by a ZAKA unit, the folks who clean up human remains after bombings and provide for compassionate burial. It is worth noting that ZAKA are primarily Orthodox Jews who violated the Sabbath in order to get to Haiti quickly. Jewish law says saving lives takes precedence over the Sabbath.

There has been a general lack of publicity for this effort which I believe is based on a perception among the media that Israel is too controversial to show a purely humanitarian side. It begs the question among Israel bashers why Israel can be so compassionate in Haiti and so allegedly brutal in the territories. Nobody wants to get into this. It shows the success of the Arab propaganda campaign to demonize Israelis and delegitimize the Jewish State

My comments:
Israel and Israelis are amazing as far as I am concerned and when you are in their country you see how Arabs & Muslims, Jews and Christians can all get along and they do, somehow they make it work, and I think it has to do with the Jews running the government. If it was an Arab government the Jews would probably not be there, they would be killed, forced to move, forced to convert...who knows. The state is one that everyone wants for the religious history and culture but somehow the Jewish government continues to make it work, as best as they can. Kudos

libertyville township meeting

Today was a good meeting, not too long but we accomplished something.

here is where pageants and politics can mix... the GLSA - Greater Libertyville Soccer Association came and presented what has been going on the past year with the land that we have leased to them. We have a large libertyville Township piece of property that is set up as soccer fields, and there are about 14 or more of them. It is a nice piece of property and this group has to maintain it.

There are a number of tournaments they are holding annually on their site so when I got home tonight I emailed them to see if they woudl be interested in having the Norther Suburbs queens be there to present awards at any of these events.

Back to the meeting... we are working on building a new food pantry on our property and today the discussion was about whether we should hire a general contractor or a Construction manager. After all the discussion we voted and decided to go with the construction manager. I chose this this method b/c with a general contractor you only see the general contractors bid but with the construction manager you see each of the subcontractors bids.

Kathleen O'Connor our Elected Supervisor is going to post the position of the Construction Manager so the architect we are using, who is also a construction manager, has to apply with any others who are interested. We can interview them and then make an educated decision.

The meeting went well overall.

Meeting with Carol Sente 59th Dist. State Rep IL

Today I had the pleasure of meeting with Carol Sente from Vernon Hills, IL. She was the person chosen for the democartic party to fill the vacancy left by Kathy Ryg.

She is running in the primary election on Feb. 2nd agains Elliott Hartstein, the current Village of Buffalo Grove, president (like mayor). He applied as the replacement for the Kathy Ryg spot, as did I and we were not chosen. I said I would not run in this primary and support the candidate chosen by the IL Dems and have stuck by my word. I have met Elliot Hartstein and he seems like a nice man and there is no doubt he has done okay in Buffalo Grove, however there is much trouble there now and I do not see him listening to his constituents or managing his board. I do not want him to win for other reasons as well. He is close to two republicans who were democrats that turned republican, Sid Mathias and David Stolman.
I can say that although those two switched parties, Hartstein did not, but still he is too close to the republicans and their political machine for my own good.

No matter, I support Carol Sente because she is kind, good hearted, willing to stand up for what she believes adn when she took this position she did make sure that they would not try to influence her decisions and she could make choices to do what she believes is right for her and her constituents that she represents. I respect that.
Carol is in a partner in a architectural firm and has been quite successful. She is serious about what she is doing. I can only say that I really liked her. I like her beliefs. she is against an increase in taxes, is for campaign reform and supports women having regularly scheduled breast exams and pap smears. She is for finding curest to breast and ovarian cancer and these crisis effect me personally because my mom had breast cancer and died of ovarian cancer. My mentor, friend and fellow politician Joy Fisher a former Wheeling Township trustee also passed away from ovarian cancer.

I have endorsed Carol and hope you will vote for her on the Feb 2 primary.

Miss Northern Suburbs Pageant

New Sister Queens for Miss Northern Suburbs, Corina, Sheridan and Taylor. Congrats girls.
Pre-Teen Contestants, Sheridan, Cassidy and Ashley. Don't they look great in those suits?

Sheridan in her opening number outfit.

Sheridan competed in and won the Miss Northern Suburbs Pageant, today, jan. 16, 2010 and is now Miss Northern Suburbs Outstanding Pre-Teen 2010. We are so excited, overjoyed and shocked and surprised.

There were only three girls in her division but they were all AMAZING. I though Sheridan's close friend Cassidy would win b/c she really was so good.

Sheridan had rehearsal this morning at 9am. we left by about 1015 am to go home, get hair done by our awesome friend and coach Sam. Sam came over, I had picked up some lunch, they ate and then hot rolled Sheridan's hair. Sheridan then got ready for interview in her suit at 1pm.

After interview she came home rested and then Sam fixed up her hair and they got ready for opening number.

Sheridan performed well. She was so great in her talent, she performed Good Morning Baltimore!! I was so proud of her. All three of the girls sang so the competition was stiff.

She modeled her sports outfit, a tennis outfit, and her gown, the pink one.

Ashley and Cassidy were both really amazing. Cassidy did well in Talent and Ashley answered her onstage question really well.

In the end, I really thought Cassidy won. When they announced Sheridan had won, I was really crying and she was shocked. We both thought Cassidy had taken it!!

We are excited to me in the Northern Suburbs group because the directors Mother and Daughter, Robin and Kristen are amazing and it should be a great year.

The new Teen is Taylor Gross and the Miss is Corina Harwood. The three should get along well and have a great year together!!!

I like their parents too and that is good for us all if we all get along.

Sheridan won amazing prizes and gets her state fee paid. We have to fill out that paperwork within the next 48 hours, ugh.

You are invited....

The Township would like to invite members of any Libertyville Township Civic/Community Organization to participate at one of our board meetings by leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Please contact the Township office at (847) 816-6800 if interested.

Busy Night

Tonight was a busy night. I went to two meetings. One at BENNU Legal ...
they are...BENNU Legal Services NFP is a nonprofit company that works with suburban-based immigrants, as well as entrepreneurial businesses, to build stronger and healthier communities. BENNU Legal provides legal and business counseling services to families and small-business entrepreneurs on a sliding-fee scale, often on a low bono basis. Through its services, BENNU Legal helps families to obtain legal benefits available under US immigration law, as well as to create jobs and assist entrepreneurs in realizing the American Dream. Website at http://www.bennulegal.org/.

I was contacted by one of their members through my Linked In account and then through Facebook. Being a lawyer, bilingual and working in International Trade Compliance, this organization is one I would like to be involved with, help grow and help it succeed. This is for both personal growth, the need to volunteer, legal growth the need to develop my legal aspects of life, and political growth; the benefit to help my political resume. I may be considered to join their advisory committee and possibly their board. This was a great meeting. The GMLV also hosted this meeting, the Green Oaks, Mundelein, Libertyville, and Vernon Hills Chamber of Commerce allowing this to be a good networking meeting as well. These 4 towns fall within Libertyville Township where I am a trustee.

I then went to a Libertyville Township Democrats meeting at Del Parra's house. He is running for a District 15 Lake county board position. The meeting was very informative. I officially became a member of this group. They are developing a newsletter to be published 2x a year. We are looking to start offering endorsements for candidates as well. This is a new, young group that will soon start getting legs and building within the Township. Tom Jurgens is running it well, and quite organized. here is the website, although a little behind today; http://libertyvilledems.org/.

I am excited to be reaching out and getting involved with various organizations that are positive for the areas where I live and for the Dems as well.

neglecting my postings, - Miss northern burbs competition

i have been neglecting the postings, shame on me.

Last sunday was our second practice for Miss Northern Suburbs.
Sheridan is one of 3 girls competing for the Miss Outstanding Pre Teen Northern Suburbs.
There is Sheridan, age 11 by the end of Jan. Her friend Cassidy, also 11 at the end of January, they are two days apart. Sheridan is two days older but Cassidy is like 8 inches taller and much more developed. You would not guess they are the same age, so funny.
Then the third girl is Ashley and I knew I had recognized her from somewhere. I talked with her this past Sunday and she competed in the Miss Libertyville pageant, that is where I had seen her!!! She won a Sunburst contest but you dont have to do much for that. just go on stage and pose, no talking.

This past weekend they practiced for interview, how to sit. they will be in front of a panel of 5 judges and are given 5 minutes for questions. It was 3 minutes but then they increased to 5. Sheridan prefers the one on one interviews over the panels but she will do okay either way.

They practiced the walking for sportswear and for modeling the gown. They practiced the intro dance and the introduction of themselves. There is also a pop question on stage as well.

For her talent this time Sheridan is going to sing the song Good Morning Baltimore. It had to be cut down. they only are allowed 90 minutes and if they go over there are points deducted. Cassidy is singing a song from the Disney movie Anastasia. Ashley is singing too. Three singers.

Dont know what the teens and misses are doing for their talents.

The outfit for opening # is a red pageant shirt, black bottoms and white socks and gym shoes.
All for now. we have another rehearsal, last one on Sunday. Will post later.
